Coronavirus: How to safely celebrate this Christmas.

With Santa just hours away, many people are preparing for Christmas despite Coronavirus. 2020 has been a difficult year around the world, and many places are currently under quarantine.

With strict restrictions in many areas, the thought of Christmas may seem daunting, but restrictions do not mean that you need to cancel your Christmas… You can still celebrate; you just need to be careful and follow some simple rules.

Below are a few expert tips to help you stay safe during the holidays.

Keep Christmas Gatherings Small:

Travel to various locations is especially concerning during the Christmas season. According to public health officials, travel is one of the most common causes of the spread of Coronavirus.

Public health authorities around the world are asking people to limit their mobility this holiday season, and suggest keeping the festivities small.

While it is best to stay within your bubble of household members, we understand the desire to visit relatives during Christmas. If you do plan to visit relatives keep gatherings small and stay safe by social distancing. This means no kisses from Great Aunt Greta this year.

Step Outside to Reduce the Risk of Contracting Coronavirus:

Whenever possible, try to take the festivities outdoors this Christmas. If you live somewhere warm, have an outdoor meal; and if it is cold, enjoy the snow by dressing appropriately.

Gathering outdoors reduces the likelihood of virus transmission drastically and is a great way to stay safe while being social this season.

Wear a Mask With Your Ugly Christmas Sweater:

Wearing a mask has been shown to reduce the spread of Covid and is just a good idea this holiday season. If you are going to be around anyone other than those in your household keep them and yourself safe by pairing a mask with your Christmas outfit and be sure to wash your hands often.

Only Hug Your Household:

Hugs go hand-in-hand with Christmas gatherings but this year has to be different. Getting close and cuddly with someone that you do not see often increases your risk of contracting Coronavirus. Try to limit hug to those within your household. This is especially important for the older people in your clan, hugging grandma is only putting her at risk. Express you love in other ways.

Quarantine To Stop Coronavirus:

If you are experiencing symptoms of any kind, now is not the time to ignore them. Get tested, even if it is Christmas day, and stay home to keep others safe. Testing sites around the globe have announced that they will remain open, even on Christmas, so if you suspect you have covid or you have come into contact with someone who does, get yourself tested and put off gatherings until you have the results.

The absolute isolation of Covid patients is vital to stopping the spread of the disease. While it may be sad to be alone at Christmas, it will be worse if you are infecting others.

While it is not always recommended by test centers, if anyone in your household is infected with coronavirus, suspects they are infected, or is awaiting test results then it is best to keep everyone home. Your friends and family will be there tomorrow, postpone your plans to keep yourself and others safe and healthy this holiday season.
