Why it is important to find your purpose:

Knowing your purpose in life gives you direction. It centers your focus and allows you to do the thing that you are most passionate about.

While many people never find their true purpose, there are many who are lucky enough to find that one thing that makes them feel complete.

When you find your purpose in life, you find:

  • Greater happiness
  • More commitment
  • Deeper engagement
  • Stronger satisfaction

Discovering your purpose can be the push you need to succeed. Anyone can find their purpose, and there are tips and tricks that can help.

Below are some simple tips to help you find your purpose in life so you can have a more meaningful existence.

Make a List to Find Your Purpose.

Maybe you are not a list maker, I know I’m not. However, this is one time when making a list is extremely beneficial. Fortunately, unlike the shopping lists that we all create and forget at home, creating a list of your passions can lead you down a road of self-discovery and make you a happier person. Plus, you don’t have to take this list out with you. You can create it and leave it stored away at home for further inspiration.

Take time to consider all the things that you do in a day.
Which do you most enjoy?
What do you choose to do most often?
Are there any that you absolutely hate with all your heart?

Creating a list of your interests and passions allows you to explore your skills and get a better understanding of who you are as a person. The result is a deeper understanding of yourself through the patterns this list reveals. It is these patterns that will lead to your purpose in life.

Consider Your Skills.

Once you have made a list of the things that you enjoy doing (e.g. reading, writing, playing music, dancing, etc.), you must further examine these skills to fill in the gaps.

Fill in the gaps by considering all the different activities that you have listed and think about the skills they require.

For example, if you most enjoy playing video games then you would list things like fine motor skills, teamwork, adrenaline, creativity, and critical thinking.

Each activity that you do requires a plethora of skills, even this creating this list requires you to have certain skills. Think about all the skills you use during your favorite daily activity and outline each one.

To complete this task successfully, break each activity down into its most basic skillsets.

Pick Your Passion.

Take a close look at the activities you have listed. Firstly, think about which stands out most. Forget about being practical for a minute, and instead, ask yourself what you most love to do.

For the moment forget about money, let go of what others think or say. What do you enjoy doing most? What gets you excited?

90% of what holds us back is the opinions of others.

If you love music, art, or video games, then one of these things may be your passion. If you love writing, enjoy helping others, or prefer to research in the background, these things may be hints you should consider more.

Once you figure out your passion you can then figure out your path.

Forge Your Own Path.

Just because your mom said that playing World of Warcraft was a waste of time doesn’t mean it is true. Our parents lived in a different world than we do today.

The world now is vastly different than any time in history.

Opportunity is abundant in every field and area that exists, and even in those that do not. Fortunately, online platforms and social media sites have made it possible to share your passion with others and thus, forge your own way in life.

Forget the naysayers and follow your heart!

Live With Intention to Find Your Purpose in Life.

Everything that you do must be done with intention.

This is not to say you cannot let loose and just have fun just for the hell of it. However, each day that you are alive you should be doing something that moves you towards your goal.

Take those big goals and break them into smaller, more manageable ones.

Breaking your big goals into smaller ones that you can accomplish at the moment helps to keep you motivated and moves you in the right direction.

For example, posting a video to YouTube, researching a topic related to your goal, or creating accounts on social media are all things that you can do today that will aid your progression.

It is essential to choose actions that inspire results, rather than those that hold you in one spot. Furthermore, because these actions are based on something that you already enjoy doing, you will have fun and it will not feel like a chore – which is the ultimate goal!

The struggle and the success:

When you try to find your purpose in life, it will take time. It is not something that will happen overnight. In fact, many people live their entire lives without ever truly knowing their purpose.

Taking the time to explore your options and learning about yourself as a person will help. However, there is no easy route. The journey to find your purpose is just that… a journey. No one can do the work for you, if you want to find your purpose in life it is something you need to actively do on your own.

Remember, it is important that you follow your heart. Discovering your purpose in life is more about learning who you are rather than what you can do to make money. Your purpose should not be based on monetary value, nor should it be affected by other people’s opinions. Your purpose in life should be what makes you most happy, what makes you feel proud.

Pride in your work will be worth far more than any salary.
